What is a diesel pump?

Feb. 19, 2025

A diesel pump is a device that combines a diesel engine with a water pump. It combines the power output of the diesel engine and the pumping function of the water pump, and is widely used in many occasions.

Working principle

1. Power transmission

After the diesel engine is started, the crankshaft rotates to generate power. The power is transmitted to the pump shaft of the water pump through a transmission device such as a coupling or a pulley.

2. Pumping process

When the impeller of the water pump rotates with the pump shaft, a low-pressure area is formed at the center of the impeller, and water is sucked into the pump body from the inlet under the action of atmospheric pressure.

The high-speed rotation of the impeller enables the water to gain kinetic energy. Under the action of centrifugal force, the water is thrown to the edge of the pump body and discharged from the outlet.

III. Application areas

1. Agricultural irrigation

In farmland irrigation, diesel pumps can transport water sources such as river water and well water to the fields to meet the irrigation needs of crops. Especially in remote areas without electricity supply, the self-powered characteristics of diesel pumps make them ideal irrigation equipment.

2. Fire emergency

Diesel engine pumps can be used as fire pumps. At the scene of the fire, when the power supply is interrupted, the diesel engine pump can start quickly and provide sufficient water pressure and water volume for fire fighting operations.

3. Municipal drainage

In urban drainage systems, diesel engine pumps can be used in drainage pumping stations. In rainy weather, when urban water needs to be discharged quickly, diesel engine pumps can assist electric drainage pumps to prevent urban waterlogging.

4. Industrial water supply

In some industrial production processes, such as mines and construction sites, a large amount of water is required for production operations or dust reduction purposes. Diesel engine pumps can provide a reliable water source for these places.

IV. Advantages

1. Strong independence

No external power supply is required, relying on its own diesel engine to provide power, suitable for places without electricity or unstable power.

2. Good mobility

Generally equipped with a mobile chassis or trailer, it is convenient to move and use in different locations, suitable for emergency rescue and other occasions.

3. Wide power range

You can choose diesel engine pumps of different powers according to actual needs, ranging from small household types to large industrial types.

V. Maintenance

1. Daily inspection

Regularly check the diesel engine's oil level, coolant level, fuel level, etc. to ensure the normal operation of each system.

Check the sealing of the water pump to prevent water leakage.

2. Regular maintenance

According to the manual of the diesel engine and water pump, regularly replace the engine oil, oil filter, fuel filter, air filter, etc.

Check and adjust the valve clearance, fuel injector and other components to ensure the performance of the diesel engine.

Check and maintain the impeller, pump shaft, etc. of the water pump to ensure the pumping efficiency of the water pump.

The diesel engine pump plays an important role in many fields with its independent power source and wide applicability. Reasonable use and maintenance can extend its service life and ensure its working performance.
